Palliser Regional Schools does support a parent's wish to home educate their child as outlined in the School Act in Alberta

Parent-Directed Home Education: Experience the Palliser way! Find your potential with Palliser! Palliser will partner with you to support your child's learning.

Parent-Directed programming (grades 1-12) adheres to the provincial Home Education regulation.

  • Parents design their children's learning experience.
  • Allows flexibility to choose educational focus for the school year  including resource selection, instructional methods and forms of assessment.
  • The parent is the primary educator, with Palliser teachers providing support with program planning, resource selection, instructional approaches and methods of assessment.

Please note: High school diplomas are not earned through a Parent-Directed high school program stream.

Parents have four key responsibilities:

  • submit a home education plan (HEP) that meets the Home Education Regulation requirements
  • submit a mid and a year end written summary of the child’s progress toward the learning outcomes identified in  the home education plan
  • provide dated samples of the child’s learning in all of the subject areas identified in the home education  plan (minimum of 4 core subjects)
  • attend student progress review meetings with the child at least twice yearly with the Palliser teacher

Parents and parent-directed students will enjoy the following benefits:

  • Optional assistance in developing a Home Education Plan (HEP)
  • ability to update the home education plan as a living document

I really like taking this online course. I can work on it from my school and from home!
